Card Monument

The Card family cenotaph loses something in this black and white photo. Part of the drama of the monument is the juxtapositon between the polished stone of the ionic pillars and the smooth stone structure of the main shaft. The monument features four gothic arches surmounted by a very sculptural draped urn. Note the monument in the background where the urn has been simplified to the point of looking more like a finial than an actual separate object.
